1. Introduction

Welcome to Vista Express, a modern, community-driven virtual airline built on the principles of professionalism, realism, and fun. Powered by the VAMSYS platform, our operations focus on structured flying, progressive career development, and a supportive environment where pilots can grow, learn, and thrive.

At Vista Express, we proudly embrace our motto:

We believe in connecting people — not just airports. Whether you’re a new virtual pilot or a seasoned simmer, Vista Express offers an engaging path built around realism, quality, and belonging.


2. Fleet & Operations Model

Vista Express operates a streamlined, efficient fleet designed for short-, medium-, and select long-haul operations:

Primary Fleet

  • Airbus A319 (Fenix)

  • Airbus A320 (Fenix)

  • Airbus A321 (Fenix)

  • Embraer E190 (FSS)

We operate from our hub at Houston–Intercontinental (KIAH), with expanding route networks as the airline grows.

Aircraft assignment is unrestricted by rank — fly what you enjoy.


3. Pilot Requirements

3.1 Initial PIREP Requirement

  • All new pilots must submit their first PIREP within 14 days of joining.

  • Failure to do so will result in automatic removal from the roster.

3.2 Ongoing Activity Requirement

  • Pilots must submit one valid PIREP every 30 days.

  • Pilots unable to meet this requirement must file a Leave of Absence (LOA) via VAMSYS.

  • Pilots who do not meet this requirement and have no LOA will be removed for inactivity.

3.3 Conduct & Behavior

Vista Express pilots are expected to:

  • Act respectfully within all VA communication channels.

  • Follow network rules when flying online (VATSIM/IVAO/PilotEdge).

  • Maintain professionalism when representing the airline using VST call signs.


4. Ranking Structure

Vista Express offers a career progression system based on flight hours and points.

  • 0–99 Hours

  • Entry-level rank for all new pilots

  • Full fleet access

  • 100–299 Hours

  • 30,000 Vista Points required

  • Represents proven experience and reliability

  • 300+ Hours

  • 90,000 Vista Points required

  • Highest pilot rank, demonstrating commitment and professionalism


5. Points System (Vista Points)

Vista Express uses “Vista Points” to reward participation, performance, and realism.

5.1 Standard Points

Each flight earns points based on:

  • Route distance

  • Landing rate

  • Filing accuracy

  • On-time performance (where applicable)

5.2 Bonus Points

  • VATSIM Flights: Additional bonus points are awarded for flying online.

  • Pilots must use the VST callsign when representing Vista Express on VATSIM.
    Example: VST1234

5.3 Staff Bonus

  • Vista Express staff receive 15 extra points per PIREP, as appreciation for their volunteer work.

  • Staff are exempt from activity requirements, though flying is still encouraged.


6. Leave of Absence (LOA)

Pilots who cannot meet activity requirements may file an LOA through VAMSYS.

LOA Conditions:

  • May be taken at any time.

  • Lasts for 30–90 days depending on pilot needs.

  • No PIREPs are required during an active LOA period.

Pilots who return from LOA simply resume normal activity requirements.


7. Flight Operations

7.1 Allowed Simulators

Vista Express supports:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS)

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2024

7.2 PIREP System

All flights must be logged using:

  • ACARS (SimBrief/VAMSYS Phoenix ACARS) for auto-file PIREPs
    or

  • Manual PIREP filing, if needed.

Auto-ACARS filing is preferred for realism and accuracy.

7.3 Route & Schedule Policy

Pilots may:

  • Fly any scheduled Vista Express route

  • Use charter/free-flight mode where allowed

  • Perform event flights, group flights, or VATSIM operations


8. Online Flying Policy

Vista Express encourages online flying wherever possible.

8.1 VATSIM Requirements

  • Pilots must follow all VATSIM policies

  • Pilots must use the VST callsign prefix

  • Bonus points are awarded for VATSIM flights

  • Realistic ATC compliance is expected

8.2 IVAO / PilotEdge

Permitted but bonus points apply only on VATSIM for now.


9. Pilot Removal & Reinstatement

9.1 Reasons for Removal

A pilot will be removed for:

  • No initial PIREP within 14 days

  • No PIREP within 30 days and no LOA

  • Repeatedly invalid or fraudulent PIREPs

  • Violations of network rules (VATSIM/etc.)

  • Major conduct violations

9.2 Reinstatement

Pilots may request reinstatement through the Vista Express staff team and typically rejoin at their previously earned hours and rank unless otherwise determined.


8. Staff Expectations

Staff are the backbone of the airline and are expected to:

  • Maintain activity on Discord.

  • Interact positively with pilots and foster community growth.

  • Represent Vista Express professionally across all platforms.

  • Respond to pilot inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Regularly perform their assigned duties.

Staff enjoy benefits:

  • +15 points per PIREP.

  • Activity requirement exemption.

  • Early access to new features.


9. Community Standards

Vista Express thrives on friendly, respectful engagement.

9.1 Discord Participation

  • Pilots are encouraged to remain active in voice chats, event nights, and general community discussions.

  • Respectful communication is required at all times.

9.2 Behavior & Conduct

  • Harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Pilots must follow VATSIM Code of Conduct when flying online.

11. Amendments & Updates

This SOP manual may be updated as the airline expands. Pilots will be notified via VAMSYS notifications and Discord announcements whenever changes are published.
