We are delighted that you have joined us and prepare to fly in our virtual airline. Musketeer VA wants to be the virtual airline for everyone who does not want to be tied to rigid flight schedules or aircraft types, but just wants to have fun flying and to be part of a great community. Before you get started, we would like to point out a few mandatory-read rules, standard procedures, and best practices to you. Feel free to contact us with your questions any time.
Musketeer Rules
1. Communication
At Musketeer VA, we offer our pilots a Discord server for a quick exchange, including voice chat, video chat and screen sharing. We expect everyone to ensure that these means of communication are not misused. Musketeer VA considers itself a respectful community; we do not tolerate propagation of unethical, religious or political content, insults of any kind or spam. Both pilots and staff are obliged to show respect and consideration for one another.
2. Online flights
We are partnering with the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM) and promote online flights, for example through granting extra points for online flights. We expect our pilots to behave professionally and to observe the rules of the network - in particular the VATSIM Code of Conduct.
3. Involvement
The services we use and provide to pilots and staff do actually cost money. Currently, we are financed exclusively by donations and sponsors. Therefore, we ask all pilots - depending on their financial possibilities - to participate through a regular donation and/or other support. Surpluses will be used to cover recurring fees in the future or for one-time expenses beneficiary to the community (e.g. marketing, events, tools).
4. Activity requirements
At Musketeer VA we ask all pilots to file a predefined amount of PIREPs over a rolling period. In addition, your first PIREP must be submitted within a certain number of days after initial registration. You can find the exact requirements and your status in your profile. By issuing these activity requirements, we want to ensure an active community and avoid "never-shows". If you are unable to be active for a longer period of time, but would like to remain a member of Musketeer VA, simply use the "holiday mode" in your profile. Your account will then not be subject to activity requirements, but you will also not be able to book any flights. You are able to end your vacation at any time and any unused days will be returned back to your holiday allowance.
5. Service availability
The availability of our services can be extended, restricted, or completely terminated at any time. There is no entitlement to be able to use the services, even after you have made a donation or contributed in other ways.
6. VAMSYS policies
Please take note of the VAMSYS policies. If you use the VAMSYS services including this website, you agree to these conditions.
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Book and start a flight
Before departing, you need to book a flight via VAMSYS. In order to receive all points to which you are entitled and to avoid invalidation of the PIREP, you should note the following points:
Book and fly the same aircraft (type). If the aircraft type differs or you do not use an approved livery, the system will not recognize the flight correctly and your PIREP may be invalidated. Please take the opportunity and request new aircraft types or liveries, that are not yet available in our Hangar, in Discord prior to booking and conducting your flight.
Flying online or offline? Do not forget to select the correct network in the booking process - otherwise you will not be awarded the extra points for flying online.
Book and fly the same callsign. For standard flights with a given flight number, we suggest to simply use the callsign assigned. In case that callsign is already in use on VATSIM or you want to use a custom callsign, make sure to use the correct prefix (MQT for passenger flights or MQC for cargo flights), to set it manually in the booking process and use the exact same callsign on the network - otherwise you will not be awarded the extra points for flying online.
Flying together with a friend? Make sure the departure and arrival aerodrome are the same - both in your bookings and in the PIREP. In addition, you should not depart and land too far apart in time - otherwise you will not be awarded the extra points for flying together.
Check flight level and route. If no company route is given, a route and flight level can be generated automatically when dispatching via Simbrief. Please make sure that those generates are valid. In some cases, we found Simbrief generating routes not valid or flight altitudes set significantly too low (example: flight from Cologne to Palma de Mallorca at FL240). A good source for routes is https://grd.aero-nav.com/.
Start flight in Pegasus (ACARS). If you forget to start your flight in Pegasus (ACARS) in time or do not send the automatically generated PIREP via Pegasus after finishing your flight, you probably need to file a manual PIREP resulting in being awarded zero points. We recommend to start Pegasus and the flight within at least 10 minutes prior push-back / engine startup and send the PIREP after the parking checklist has been completed.
Manual PIREP / Claims
If you forgot to start Pegasus and need to file a manual PIREP / claim your flight hours, you can do so via the claims page. Please provide the following information for validation:
Departure and arrival airport
Departure and arrival times - should result in a meaningful flight time for your aircraft type.
Proof of your flight - like links to your public volanta flight profile, vatsim statistics or similar.
